Update - ESPN Wide World of Sports

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

We just received an email from another collector about the machine that was at ESPN Wide World of Sports. This machine was still available on May 30, 2010, when he pressed a set from this machine. It's not known when the machine was actually removed, but it's currently off-stage. We can't imagine the machine returning with the same old designs for the reasons we mentioned in our previous post. We will be updating our listings later this month and the three designs that were in this machine will be listed as retired. What is interesting is that Disney has this machine, with the old designs, listed on their Coin Press Checklist dated January 10, 2011 as being out for refurbishment.

ESPN Wide World of Sports

Monday, January 17th, 2011

We have been contacted by another collector that the machine located at ESPN Wide World of Sports was removed probably back in April of last year. We had originally reported in April 2010 that we were anticipating this machine to be removed or changed due to the name change from Disney's Wide World of Sports to ESPN Wide World of Sports. One design had Disney's Wide World of Sports on it which is no longer correct. The second design had D-Sports on it which no longer exists. The third design had the Orlando Rays logo on it and they had moved to Montgomery, Alabama for the 2004 season and became the Montgomery Biscuits.

Mickey's Toontown Fair Is Closing

Sunday, January 16th, 2011

On February 12, 2011, Mickey's Toontown Fair at Magic Kingdom will be permanently closed to make way for the expansion of Fantasyland. Toontown Fair originally started on June 18, 1988 as Mickey's Birthdayland to honor Mickey's 60th birthday. At the end of Mickey's 60th birthday celebration on April 22, 1990, Mickey's Birthdayland closed and then reopened and renamed on May 26, 1990 as Mickey's Starland. Mickey's Starland was later updated and became Mickey's Toontown Fair on June 29, 1996.

There are two pressed penny machines located in Mickey's Toontown Fair. One machine is located outside in front of Toontown Farmer's Market and the other machine is located inside Cornelius Coot's County Bounty. We at Presscoins.com first saw both machines on September 15, 2002. Both machines are a four die hand crank machine. Five of the eight designs have the word TOONTOWN on them. With the closing of Mickey's Toontown Fair, we expect both machines to be permanently removed and all eight designs retired.
